Yesterday morning, when I woke up, I logged onto Facebook. As I was reading the news feed filled with updates from my friends, acquaintances, and family members, I came across one status update by a friend of mine that struck me the most:
You have to love an era where you can wake up needing a babysitter that same night, send a FB message to parents of potential sitter, parent texts sitter, who says yes and then the parent Facebooks you back with the affirmation… all in a course of 5 minutes. Ya gotta love technology!
This status marks a change in the means of efficient communication. When I was a little girl, my mother would be pulling her hair out if she learned that she needed a babysitter on the same day. She would have to pull out her address book and call up a few babysitters. This took perhaps at least a good half hour. Even when she was looking for a babysitter in advance, there were times when she struggled to find one who was available at the time when she needed it. Now, thanks to internet, communication has just become easier and easier as we are able to get things that we want faster and our mission accomplished sooner! Unreal!
Also notice how the person who posted the status wrote “…the parent Facebooks you back….” English language is really evolving by adding new words to the language because of the booming technology!
